Alicia Munnell served as a Member of the President`s Council of Economic Advisers prior to her position at Boston College. Prior to joining the Council, she served for nearly three years as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy. Dr. Munnell spent most of her professional career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, where she wrote extensively on tax policy, Social Security, public and private pensions, and productivity.
Among many other affiliations, Dr. Munnell was co-founder and first President of the National Academy of Social Insurance. She has also served on numerous advisory boards and panels. Munnell has recently testified before Congress on Social Security rates of return and shifting Social Security trust funds into the equity market. Alicia is also the director of the The Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, part of a consortium that includes a parallel center at the University of Michigan. The Center was recently established through a 5-year $5.25 million grant from the Social Security Administration.
